In de neus rijp kersenfruit, zoethout en een hint van gebrande koffiebonen. De mondinzet is sappig en geconcentreerd, gedomineerd door blauw-zwart fruit, en een aantrekkelijke frisheid. In het middenstuk toont het (kersen)fruit een eerste spoortje van ontwikkeling (zuidvruchen). De tannines zijn markant, de materie toont een prachtige balans van kracht en elegantie. Inmiddels is het hout enigszins verweven met het sap, en is zonder meer ondersteunend (en geenzins dominant). Een indrukwekkende Châteauneuf-du-Pape met zeer goede bewaarpotentie. Deze cuvée wordt alleen in goede oogstjaren gemaakt (maximaal 10% van de totale productie). [december 2024]
John Livingston/drinkrhone.com: “The nose has a spiced, rather robust charge, peppery red fruits, raspberry liqueur, pine needles in the game. The palate gives a good oily run of cooked plums, the content just ahead of some gummy, slightly compressed, dry tannins. It demands another four+ years, will come together, carries correct freshness for that. It’s authentic, traditional Châteauneuf. From 2025, decant it.” [Oktober 2021].
Jeb Dunnuck: “The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvee Des Felix is cut from the same cloth, although it’s a bigger, richer, more tannic wine. Black cherries, saddle leather, Provençal herbs, and charcuterie-like notes all define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a supple, layered mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. It’s another beautiful wine from this estate that tastes like liquid Provence.” [96/100]
Falstaff: “Deep ruby in colour with purple reflections and a broad and bright ochre rim. On the nose, a multi-faceted bouquet of liquorice, blackberry, nougat and a touch of sea buckthorn and candied violets in the background. The palate is juicy, with pronounced tannins, fresh acidity and notes of ripe cherry, chocolate, and fine dried fruit nuances on the finish. The wine certainly has the potential for further ageing, needs time.” [92/100] [januari 2023]
