[december 2019]
Jean-Michel Stéphan: “I make wines on the fruit, without sulphur. I want fruit and maximum freshness. The late Jules Chauvet in the Beaujolais would saturate his vats with carbonic gas until the cap rose, and vinification would take place around 10oC. That´s what I do with one of my three wines, the one from Tupin that is called Coteaux de Tupin, while my plain Côte-Rôtie is made partly along those lines.””
John Livingston/drinkrhone.com :”The nose is reduced, has an aroma of stewed red fruits, plums, violet here and there, hints of black olives. This is spinal, clear and cool vintage Rôtie, will please the Thinkers. There are different parts to it to fuse, and the aromatic flourish on the second half is most pleasing. The tannins are a bit spartan for now. [februari 2019]
Josh Raynolds/Vinous: “Inky ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, potpourri and smoked meat show very good clarity and spicy lift. Concentrated boysenberry, bitter cherry, cured meat and violet pastille flavors reveal hints of candied licorice and cracked pepper on the back half. Finishes on a smoky note, with slowly emerging tannins and repeating gaminess. I’m okay with the distinctly wild aspect of this wine, but I imagine that plenty of people wouldn’t be on board with it.”[91/100]
