John Livingston / DrinkRhone.com: “The bouquet has a sweet intensity, comes with blackberry fruit and herbs, a note of licorice, has a compact, sunny ripeness; it will develop and vary well. The palate starts with a smooth presentation of berry fruits, the texture oily, well Southern. The finish gives a cluster of graininess as the tannins sort themselves out. This has sound heart, carries its depth well, will develop gradually, its rich heart the main asset. It’s a solid, full Châteauneuf, not overdone in any way. The aftertaste is lip smacking, well rounded. [May 2021]
Joe Czerwinski /Wine Advocate: “A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 20% Cinsault, drawn from the lieux-dits of le Bois de la Ville and le Limas, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Bimard is darker in hue than Montfaucon’s regular cuvée. With its scents of charred beef, espresso, mocha and vanilla, it seems a bit oaky—apparently it spent time in older barriques—but there’s enough substance here to support the wood, with deep, dark, plummy fruit, and this full-bodied effort finishes chocolaty and long.” [Mei 2022]
James Suckling / Wine Spectator: ” A distinctive, soulful wine, with beautiful character, offering mulled plum and cherry flavors that join herbs, smoke and salty graphite on the palate. Highlighted by potent aromatics and ripe fruit, this showcases a broader spectrum overall, with flashes of mocha on the well-integrated, persistent close. Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2030. [December 2023]
