This has a fresh, racy nose, what abundance! It gives brambly fruit, flowers, a coulis of blackberry in the fruiting, also licorice and a hint of tobacco – a delightful start. Hey ho – this is a real Road runner on the palate- a fabulous expression of Syrah black berry fruit. The texture is supple, it is quietly long, its balance is in order. It has lovely drinkability, ending freshly and clearly. I expect it to thicken as it matures, around 2016-17. The many, glorious virtues of 2010 Northern Rhône lie in this glass. Light touch, extremely pretty wine. [John Livingston/drinkrhone.com, September 2012]
John Livingston: “It has lovely drinkability, ending freshly and clearly. I expect it to thicken as it matures, around 2016-17. The many, glorious virtues of 2010 Northern Rhône lie in this glass. Light touch, extremely pretty wine.”
Robert Parker / Wine Advocate: “The outstanding 2010 St.-Joseph Vieilles Vignes possesses a dense ruby/purple color in addition to notes of creme de cassis, strawberries, licorice, lavender and spice box. Medium to full-bodied with an attractive fullness on the attack and mid-palate, excellent purity, light tannin and a reasonably long finish, it should drink well for a decade.” [December 2012]
Stephen Brook/Decanter: “Gamey nose, showing slight reduction. Rich, quite opulent, full-bodied and concentrated, this has depth and cut. The tannins are very ripe and balanced by lively acidity that gives energy to the wine overall. Complete and satisfying. Good length.”
