The nose shows oak and dark fruit. The taste is juicy, without the structure and tannin that syrah from the Northern Rhône brings at young age. Fruit (cherry, blue berry, blackberry) with some black olives and tobacco in the middle. Slightly meaty, supple tannin and dosed tannin. A surprisingly juicy and tempting appearance of the syrah from the warm South. Not at all a blockbuster, rather balanced and with an clear signature of the wine maker. A great Southern syrah. John Livingston: “It is always pretty supple, so the texture is largely smooth. Has just enough gras richness to do OK.”
Jeb Dunnuck (Wine Advocate): “Coming from half the normal production, it has fabulous purity and freshness in its black raspberry, violets, toasted bread and mineral-laced aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, elegant, silky and texture, enjoy this seamless syrah over the coming 4-5 years.”
Perswijn: “zwoel en intens, chocola en pruimen, confiture. Machtig en weelderig, modern, verleiding, vanille, lengte. ***** [ #2/2018]
