Tasting notes

An elegant Côte-Rôtie, dominated by small red fruit. The nose shows floral tones (violin), raspberry and currant, pepper. The start is lively, offering slender and juicy fruit (black/berries), light smoky tones (tea, tobacco) and licorice. It develops mildly spicy (pepper, mint), shows vital acids, smooth and digestible tannin. The finish of this medium-bodied wine is relatively light-footed. Les Elotins allows for drinking at relatively young age so that spontaneous fruit manifests itself best. [August 2014]

Wine producer
Until the end of 2007, Christophe Billon combined the production of his own wines with his work for négociant Guigal. He produces three Côte-Rôtie wines, a good Vin de Pays, and since 2012 a Condrieu (planted in 2007). La Brocarde is an impressive wine which displays the characteristics of Côte Brune to advantage; the most salient feature of Les Elotins is its lively fruitiness. As of yet, this small domaine is not on the radar of most wine critics. That is a good thing in terms of price development, but it does not do justice to the fervor and wine maker skills of the somewhat introvert Billon. His wines definitely deserve more attention.
Quote & Reviews

John Livingston: “Nothing flash here – also good, an honest Côte-Rôtie without frills.”
